Donald Kenneth Shaffer, 87, of Tekonsha passed away September 14, 2025 at the Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson, MI.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the Union Church (United Church of Christ), Tekonsha with Pastor Melanie Johnson officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service.
There will be an inurnment in Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services. Marshall.
He was born June 11, 1938 to Charles Kenneth and Viva (Brown) Shaffer in Marshall, MI. Don graduated from Tekonsha High School 1957. He married Janet Horn in January of 1957, and she preceded him in death on December 20, 2019.
Don was a long-time member of Union Church (United Church in Christ) in Tekonsha. Don and Janet enjoyed traveling, camping in the Upper Peninsula and going out west with their family and friends. When Don was a young man, he worked on the SS Hennepin, a Great Lakes Freighter as a deck hand during the summer for 3 summers, he also worked at the Douglas Corp in Tekonsha. In 1970, Don began working in the printing department at Kellogg Cereal Company and retired from production after 25 years.
Don was an avid hunter, fisherman, and he loved to canoe, he just loved being outdoors. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club.
Don is survived by his sons, Scott (Lori) Shaffer, Daniel (Lynett) Shaffer, Martin Shaffer; grandchildren, Nicholas (Stacie) Shaffer, Adam (Melanie) Shaffer, Anthony (Victoria) Shaffer; sister, Penny (Terry) Sievers; brother, Lester (Cindi) Shaffer; sister-in-law, Linda Shaffer and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Curt, Phil and Marvin Shaffer.
Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Don are suggested to the Union Church (United Church of Christ) in Tekonsha.
