COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners made a pair of appointments to the county’s Board of Canvassers on Tuesday.
Both the Branch County Democratic and Republican parties submitted three candidates to the Commissioners for consideration.
All five Commissioners voted to keep Democrat Vicky Hargrove on the Board. The other Democratic candidates were Gayle Groshko and Edward Vaughn Svoboda.
The Commissioners were also unanimous in their appointment of Republican David Mansfield to the Board. He will take over for Don Vrablic whose term is expiring. The other G.O.P. candidates were John Towers and Jessica Green.
Each county in Michigan has a Board of Canvassers composed of two Republican members and two Democratic members. It’s primary duty after an election is to check materials from each precinct to ensure accuracy of the vote totals.
In other business, the Commissioners approved a bid of over $53,000 from Cole Ford for a 2025 F-350 truck to be used by the County Complex. It replaces a vehicle that was totaled in a September 2 crash.
The insurance settlement for the damaged vehicle was over $37,000. The balance for the purchase will come from contingencies.
