COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch-HIllsdale-St Joseph Health Community Health Agency Health Officer Rebecca Burns told the agency’s board Thursday that while none of their three counties have had their water tested yet for polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), testing in Hillsdale County is scheduled to start next week.
Results are expected to be back in four to six weeks.
Director of Environmental Health Paul Andriacchi said if anyone wanted to have a private well tested for PFAS, it would cost $1,100. He added they have only had one call inquiring about it but their best advice right now for private well owners is to wait for tests to be conducted by a private company hired by the state.
Burns prepared a sheet for board members that they could share with other local leaders which helps them direct citizens who have questions about PFAS and their drinking water. Burns also said she and Andriacchi are available for government meetings to discuss the PFAS situation.
