COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a $150,000 Recreation Passport Grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) on Monday to move forward with the renovation of Optimist Park.
The project, with a total estimated cost of $300,000, requires the city to provide a matching $150,000 in funds, with all improvements to be completed by March 2028.
City Manager Keith Baker described what improvements and additions are currently being planned
Baker said the city is pursuing other options to finance the remaining $150,000 of the estimated cost and added that neighboring Pansophia Academy has plans in the works to build a pavilion on the adjoining property that would also be available to those who visit the park.
Baker said they anticipate the renovations to begin in the summer of 2027 and be completed by the March 2028 grant deadline.
