PARMA, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater dropped both ends on an Interstate 8 baseball twinbill at Parma Western Tuesday, 9-8 and 8-0 in 5 innings.
Down 7-2 after 4 innings in the opener, the Cardinals rallied with 2 runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh frames. In the bottom of the seventh, Chase Budd hit the walkoff two-run double off Dayton Ennis to secure the Panther victory. Ennis went 3-for-3 with two doubles and threr runs batted in, Finn Hanson singled and doubled, and Owen Tappenden smacked a two-run homer.
In the nightcap, Hanson and Rylan Edwards had the only two hits off Western pitcher Brody Parrott.
Coldwater fell to 4-7 overall, 2-2 in the Big 8, and will travel to Three Rivers on Thursday.
BRONSON, MI – Bronson split a Big 8 doubleheader against visiting Union City. The Chargers took the opener 9-0, while the Vikings prevailed in the nightcap 11-2 in 6 innings.
Nolan Chard threw a complete game shutout for Union City in the first game, allowing 1 hit and 2 walks with 9 strikeouts. Carson Liles was 3-for-5 with two doubles, while Brock Watson singled, doubled, and drove in two runs. Simon Swartzle and Tucker Zweng also doubled. Joe Fair had the lone Bronson hit.
The Vikings broke a scoreless tie in the second game with 6 runs in the second. Warner Wotta and Collin Webb hit solo homers, Max Byler went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and Rylan Fincham hit a three-run double. Fair allowed both Charger runs on 6 hits in 4-1/3 innings as he earned the win.
Bronson improved to 6-2 overall, 2-2 in the Big 8, and are back in action Wednesday at Prairie Heights. Union City fell to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big 8; they will host Buchanan on Thursday.
QUINCY, MI – Quincy improved to 5-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the Big 8 with a doubleheader sweep against Stockbridge, 13-8 and 18-0 in 4 innings.
The Orioles broke a 7-7 tie in the opener with 6 runs in the sixth inning. Joe Gray went 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Bryson Estlow was 3-for-4, and Ethan Drumm went 2-for-4 and drove in 3 runs. Kale Dirschell earned the victory in relief of starter Cobee Stevens.
In the nightcap, winning pitcher JJ wright allowed no runs, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. Reliever Seth VanStelle gave up a hit and a run and fanned three. Gray went 3-for-3, and Matthew Taylor was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
Quincy returns to action Thursday at Hanover-Horton.
