TEKONSHA, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 29-year-old Domonique Nicole Gibson and her 35-year-old male passenger early Saturday morning after she drove northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 near Tekonsha.
The incident began around 2:51 a.m. Saturday morning, when the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority received reports from Branch County dispatch and multiple motorists about the wrong-way vehicle.
A deputy attempted to stop the slow-moving car using emergency lights and sirens, but Gibson swerved around the patrol vehicle and continued traveling against traffic.
Faced with the risk of a head-on collision, a deputy deployed spike strips on southbound I-69 near F Drive South.
The vehicle struck the strips, deflating three tires and coming to a stop. Gibson was arrested and lodged in the Calhoun County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and CCW While Intoxicated. The male passenger was arrested for a CPL concealment violation while intoxicated.
The incident remains under investigation.
