He was born May 5, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to Ernest and May (Waggoner) Montgomery. September 29, 1973, he married the love of his life, Carol Jantzi. Together, they built a beautiful life founded on faith, partnership, and unconditional love.
Bob graduated from Pettisville High School and went on to dedicate his life to serving his Lord, Jesus. A passionate and faithful shepherd, he devoted 42 years to Christian ministry. He began his ministry journey at Living Word Fellowship in Stryker, Ohio, where he served faithfully as an elder, youth pastor, and associate pastor. He then became the Senior Pastor at Word of Life Outreach Center in Quincy, where he lovingly led the congregation for 38 years.
Bob truly lived out his calling with deep joy, frequently sharing that “he loved what he did.”
Bob’s heart for the broken and forgotten was evident through his local impact; alongside pastoring his congregation in Quincy, he faithfully preached and served in the local prison ministry for over 35 years.
Pastor Bob’s ministry knew no borders; Bob traveled internationally many times for missionary work and speaking engagements. He brought a message of hope and redemption to the nations, and throughout his extensive travels in Russia and Ukraine, he shared the Gospel in churches, led pastor conferences, and visited drug rehabilitation centers in remote locations. His global mission work also took him to Costa Rica, France, Israel, Siberia, Latvia, and Australia.
While Pastor Bob’s ministry touched thousands of lives, both locally and globally, he never forgot his equally vital calling as a husband and father. He balanced his devotion to the church with a profound commitment to his family, serving as an exemplary husband to Carol and a deeply devoted, supportive father and grandfather who poured love into his home with gentleness, humor, and unwavering faith.
Bob loved life’s simple pleasures and being completely present for those he held dear. He cherished camping trips with Carol, riding his motorcycles, and was always his daughters’ biggest cheerleader, never missing an opportunity to attend their sporting events. Born and raised in Ohio, he was also an avid, lifelong Buckeye fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; three daughters, Nikki (Eric) Deaton, Tara (Nathan) Johnson, and Megan (Lance) LaFountain; his cherished grandchildren, Drew (Danielle) Deaton, Brooklyn Powell, and Rayce and Annika Johnson; a son-in-law, David Powell; and his siblings, David Montgomery, Linda (Ed) Aton, Sandy (Howard) Whitmore, Debbie (Jeff) Nuenschwander, Dorothy Bock, and Dan (Karen) Montgomery. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Natasha Powell; and his sister, Janice Montgomery.
Flowers are appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to Word of Life Outreach Center.
