COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Insight Hospital & Medical Center in Coldwater announced this morning that it will temporarily suspend its inpatient behavioral health services starting Wednesday, July 22.
Hospital officials say that the decision follows a comprehensive program evaluation involving physicians, caregivers, and clinical leadership.
The evaluation highlighted a critical need to modernize the facility’s physical space, operations, and patient care standards to better serve the community.
A definitive timeline for reopening the inpatient unit has not yet been established, as the upcoming changes are dependent on project planning, funding approvals, construction, and regulatory requirements.
Chief Nursing Officer Rick VanGessel says “Behavioral health remains an essential part of our mission and our commitment to the communities we serve, This temporary suspension allows us to focus on planning meaningful improvements that will strengthen our inpatient behavioral health program for the future. Our goal is to restore these services in a modernized environment that supports high-quality patient care and the dedicated professionals who provide it.”
He added “Every decision we make is guided by our commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality care, we appreciate the dedication of our caregivers and the trust our community places in us. We look forward to sharing updates as we move this important investment forward.”
For healthcare workers potentially impacted, hospital officials said they are “committed to supporting its employees throughout this transition” and will “continue communicating with staff as planning progresses.”
While the inpatient suspension is underway, Insight Hospital will continue to provide behavioral health support locally.
Patients can still access mental health care through the hospital’s emergency department and its outpatient behavioral health program.
