She was born November 7, 1947 in Garden City, Michigan, to Hubert and Hazel (Lee) Lounds. Jan married James “JJ” Johnson on March 21, 1975, and he survives.
Jan graduated from Quincy High School in 1965. She was a member of the Quincy American Legion Auxiliary. To know Jan was to call her a friend. She could strike up a conversation with anyone for hours. Jan was full of knowledge, opinions, and stories. She was a collector of many things, and if you ever needed an item, you could be sure she had at least two or three she would be willing to give you.
Jan was a caregiver to many, babysitting for years. It seemed as though there was never a time when a child wasn’t in her arms or at her house. In her younger years, you could find her working tirelessly, sewing boat covers or reupholstering furniture. She enjoyed many days boating on the lake or swimming in the neighbors’ pool with family and the children she cared for. She always made sure each child had whatever they wanted to eat as soon as they walked in the door and never missed placing an order with the Schwan’s man. Popcorn and movies were staples in her home. Jan’s kindness, generosity, and friendship will be deeply missed by many.
In addition to her husband, JJ, Jan is survived by three children, Rex Thacher, Rebecca Thacher-Arias, and Kimberly (Arthur) Weir; special daughter, Trena Thacher; special son, Ramon (Paula) Arias; one sister, Marilyn Lounds; four brothers, James (Sharon) Lounds, Benjamin (Doris) Lounds, Lawrence (Gina) Lounds, and John (Neva) Lounds; ten grandchildren, Heather (Justin) Schanz, Tandasue (Travis) Mather, Ryan, Devin, and Megan Weir, Harmony Thacher, Zachary Stevens, and Brittainé, Bresandrea, and Alexavier Arias; many great-grandchildren, including Hayden and Sebastian Schanz and Ridlee and Berklee Mather; many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her best friend, Debbie Hagaman.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Christopher Johnson; and one grandson, Zachary Thacher.
