COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see a historic gravestone go from a moss-covered, dark, aged piece that you can barely read to a beautifully cleaned marker that takes you back in time to the 1800’s or early 1900’s when it was first placed?
The City of Coldwater will be hosting a free Gravestone Cleaning Workshop at Oak Grove Cemetery Tuesday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. Local historian and preservationist Bobbie Mathis and historian Randall Hazelbaker will share the history behind these important pieces of the community, demonstrate proper cleaning techniques, and explain how to “Do No Harm” when caring for historic gravestones.
They says participants will also have the opportunity to help clean a historic headstone and see the difference preservation can make.
