COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors Wednesday night approved pay raises for CBPU Director Paul Jakubczak which cover the next three years.
The Board approved the pay hikes after a nearly 40 minute closed session in order to conduct a periodic personnel evaluation at Jakubczak’s request.
When the board came back into open session, they approved a motion that Jakubczak receive a favorable evaluation as Director along with a four percent pay increase retroactive to July 1, 2026.
In addition he would get a 3 1/2 percent pay increase the following year and a three percent hike in the third year.
The salary increases in the second and third years would be subject to change based on the discretion of the board.
Jakubczak thanked the Board afterwards for their “vote of confidence”.
Jakubczak has served as the utility’s Director since March 7, 2022. He was the Director of Electric & Gas Systems in Fort Pierce, Florida before taking the job in Coldwater.
The initial contract agreement with the CBPU called for him to receive an annual salary of $160,000. He was given a five percent pay raise in 2023 as well as two percent increases in 2024 and 2025.
In other business, the board decided to keep the same officers for the next year. Chris Stevens will remain as President, Scott Ohm was re-elected Vice President and Nicki Luce was reappointed as secretary.
A moment of silence was also held at the start of the meeting in honor of Public Safety Director Joe Scheid who died suddenly Monday evening.
