BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Union City got to the finals of the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three baseball districts Saturday in the Bronson as they scored seven runs with two outs in the top of the seventh to defeat Quincy 8-2. But the Chargers ran out of the gas in the district finals as they were ousted by Homer 11-0.
Quincy took a 2-0 first inning lead thanks to RBI singles by Matt Hagaman and Chandler Locke. Larson Kever’s RBI single in the top of the fifth got the Chargers on the board. The Orioles were ahead 2-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh but starter Caleb McCavit had to be removed because of the state mandated pitch count.
Grady Kever forced in the tying run on a bases loaded walk and winning pitcher Colton Johns scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch. Garrett Korn had a two-run double during the uprising. Johns picked up his second victory of the district tournament as he shut down the Orioles after allowing the two first inning runs.
Homer put the district game away early by scoring twice in the first inning and adding six more runs in the third. The Chargers ended their season 23-11.
