ZEELAND, MI (WTVB) – Thanks to three first place finishes, the Coldwater boys track team won the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two Lower Peninsula championship on Saturday at Zeeland.
The Cardinals compiled 60 points. Zeeland East was second with 53. Harper Woods Chandler Park was third with 37 points.
The Cardinals set the tone for the meet with a 1-2-3 finish in the shot put which earned Coldwater 24 points. Dylan Targgart finished first with a distance of 61 feet, two inches. Zach Gipple was second (54 feet, 1/4 inch) and Cole Targgart was third (52 feet, 6 3/4 inches). Targgart also won the discus with a distance of 170 feet, 10 inches. Cole Targgart was fifth (150 feet, two inches). The performance by the Targgarts in the discus gave the Cardinals 12 points.
Coldwater’s Shuaib Ajabaly won the 1,600 championship with a time of 4:16.56. Kyle Foulk was 24th. Ajabaly also finished third in the 3200 (9:17.11) while Adam Bailey was second in the 300 hurdles (39.03).
MHSAA DIVISION 2 GIRLS TRACK FINALS
Coldwater’s girls squad was unable to score any points at the M.H.S.A.A. Division Two Lower Peninsula Track and Field Finals.
Kathy Potter (5:17.62) was 13th in the 1600 while Elka Machan (11:39.13) was 15th in the 3200. Kaci White (99 feet, nine inches) was 19th in the discus and 16th (35 feet, 1 1/2 inches) in the shot put.
Claire Sheppard (four feet, 11 inches) was 12th in the high jump and was ninth (16 feet, three 3/4 inches) in the long jump.
