COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – State Representative Jennifer Wortz is pushig forward with legislation aimed at honoring Casey Rice, a dedicated Branch County Road Commission employee who was tragically killed in the line of duty.
Under House Bill 6309, a portion of highway M-86 in Branch County would be officially designated as the “Casey Rice Memorial Highway”. The proposed stretch spans from U.S. Route 12 to Arbogast Road, covering a section of the roadway that the 46-year-old Coldwater resident routinely maintained.
Wortz says she is hoping to to progress when legislators return later this month
She says she will be looking for bipartisan support in the senate, and eventually signed by the governor by the end of the year.
Wortz emphasized that the memorial highway would provide a permanent public recognition of Rice’s meaningful contributions to the county.
