COLDWATER,MI (WTVB) – Several Southwest Michigan counties including Branch County are receiving millions of dollars in state payments to kickstart road and infrastructure repairs under the state’s newly established Neighborhood Roads Fund.
The first wave of disbursements, part of a massive $2 billion annual statewide investment approved in a bipartisan budget, is flowing directly to local road commissions, cities, and villages to rebuild deteriorating neighborhood pathways and local bridges.
State officials emphasize that these long-term funding streams reconfigure tax allocations—such as corporate income and wholesale marijuana revenues—to ensure every dollar collected goes straight to neighborhood infrastructure without increasing costs at the fuel pump.
Among the localized cash infusions, Branch County is slated to receive $734,412.48 to tackle local resurfacing and maintenance needs. Meanwhile, neighboring St. Joseph County is set to pull in $821,981.53 from the fund to support its local transit and road systems.
The regional investments aim to alleviate the financial burden on smaller communities, providing smoother commutes and lowering vehicle repair costs for drivers throughout the southern border region of West Michigan.
