ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Board of Commissioners officially on Tuesday officillay enacted a six-month moratorium on data center construction.
The formalized resolution adopts an August recommendation from the Steuben County Plan Commission, temporarily pausing new developments to give local officials time to draft a permanent zoning ordinance governing where these facilities can build.
This defensive planning move arrives just as utility companies are actively discussing plans to route high-transmission electric lines through Steuben County, adding urgency to grid management.
While the county says that they are not completely closed to future technology business, they emphasized that the massive scale of these projects requires the county to establish clear guardrails first to get the regulations right.
