COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors decided on Wednesday morning to change board by laws concerning board member term limits.
After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to extend the length of time a person can serve on the board in the future to three terms from the current two terms. Each term would still last four years.
Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer initially thought term limits as spelled out in the by laws should be eliminated. The Mayor makes appointments to the board and Kramer said it was difficult to find volunteers in a small community to serve on the D.D.A. Board.
D.D.A./Main Street Director Kristen Johnson disagreed with the Mayor.
Kramer eventually made a motion to extend time on the board to no longer than three terms. It was passed 7-1 with Board member Courtney Dirschell casting the only no vote.
The discussion and action came on the same morning the Board selected new officers since Mike Caywood’s time on the board ended on Wednesday after two terms.
Dirschell was selected as the new Board President while Al Rakocy was selected as Vice-President. They will start their new duties next month. John Fulmer has been appointed to replace Caywood on the board.
Caywood had been the DDA President since 2023 and served on the board since October 2018. Dirschell has been a board member since August of 2019 and had been the V.P. since 2024.
