MENDON, MI (WTVB) – The life of a seven year old boy was saved Wednesday afternoon after the youngster fell into the St. Joseph River in Mendon.
Michigan State Police say the boy’s father pulled him from the river near Mill and Fremont Streets.
A trooper used rescue breathing for 15 minutes after seeing the boy was in significant danger of dying. Mendon Police and Fire assisted by monitoring the child’s pulse and air intake.
The youngster eventually began to breathe more regularly while coughing up river water.
By the time an ambulance from South County Kalamazoo arrived, the boy had normal color and was crying. He was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for further medical attention.
