CAMDEN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Two Montgomery women were critically injured Monday morning after their horse-drawn Amish buggy was struck from behind by an SUV in Hillsdale County.
According to Michigan State Police, the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. on Territorial Road near Mead Road in Camden Township.
Investigators say the buggy was traveling westbound on Territorial Road when a GMC Terrain ran into the buggy from behind.
The occupants of the buggy, identified as a 50-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman, suffered severe injuries and were airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor for emergency treatment.
The driver of the GMC Terrain, a 38-year-old woman from Hillsdale, was not injured in the collision. No update was given on the condition of the two women who were airlifted from the scene.
State troopers from the Jackson post are continuing to investigate the crash, though investigators say that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.
