COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Matteson Township man, who is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of a building, was ordered by District Court Judge Brent Weigle to undergo a forensic examination on Tuesday to determine if he is mentally competent to stand trial.
42-year-old Jonathan Vern Fleming is now scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing in District Court on March 24.
He was arrested in connection with an alleged January 15 incident. According to court documents, he was accused of throwing a rock through a neighbor’s front door window. The rock barely missed hitting a man inside who had ducked but it caused about $1,200 worth of damage.
Fleming’s home on Lyter Road burned down two days later. It’s not known if the rock throwing incident and the fire are related.
