COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Members of the Coldwater City Council and the city’s Planning Commission expressed a desire during a special joint meeting Wednesday evening that the former Federal Mogul property at 600 West Chicago be used for something else besides a proposed apartment complex.
The City Council tabled a draft agreement on January 25 concerning the proposed sale of the property to Coach Road Capital, LLC of Spring Lake, Michigan. Coach Road developed the Apartments at Sauk Trail on the east side of Coldwater.
It was tabled again on Monday at the request of the developer until the next Council meeting on Monday, February 22.
Among the ideas kicked around during the special meeting was connecting the land to the park system or using it for an indoor/outdoor meeting space. Council member Jim Knaack suggested putting a city marina at the site.
The apartment complex was presented in light of the need for additional housing in Coldwater. Council member Chad Johnson said the city needs housing but not at that location.
