COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Early Bird and Noon Exchange Club’s annual Prayer Breakfast was held yesterday at the United Methodist Church in Coldwater.
The event is also known as a program called “One Nation Under God” which was adopted by the National Exchange Club in 1964.
The Coldwater Exchange Club’s Wednesday Prayer Breakfast was free to any veteran and about a dozen vets besides the military service members who are in the Exchange Club, were in attendance yesterday. The clubs said they wanted the veterans to know their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed and they thanked them for their service. Veterans Day in the United States is observed annually on November 11.
The featured speaker for Wednesday’s breakfast in Coldwater was Bob Betts, a local veteran of 30 years in the Air Force who retired in 1987 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Betts explained the goals of the “One Nation Under God” program and said the aims of the project are to build greater respect for the Pledge of Allegiance, promote increased use of the Pledge in schools and at public gatherings, combat all efforts to remove the words “under God” from the Pledge, and encourage and promote religious services by local churches.
The current President of the Coldwater Early Bird Exchange Club is Neal Dantes while Jennifer Poe is President of the Noon Club.
