UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A student who allegedly brought a weapon onto Union City Community Schools property Monday afternoon was quickly taken into custody.
Superintendent Ronna Steel says law enforcement was immediately informed and the student was apprehended within minutes of the report.
Steel says they followed their lock down procedures when the incident took place. She added there is an active police investigation and they will share more information as it becomes available.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Union City Police Department or one of the school administrators.
Steel says counselors will be available on Tuesday if any student needs additional support to help process this incident.
She posted the information about the incident on the district’s Facebook page at about 5:15 p.m.. Some parents and community members vented their anger on social media about not being informed about the situation earlier. Others thanked the school district and the police for taking action before anyone got hurt.
