COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council was given information from Housing Commission Executive Director Cathy Gordon and Jerry Anderson from Federal Consulting Group on Monday night on the Housing Commission’s intent to reposition itself from public housing to a Section 8 type funding under the Rental Assistance Demonstration program.
Part of the conversion would have the city convey the deed for the Englewood Senior Apartments on South Clay Street back to the Housing Commission
The conversion is being pursued because subsidies from HUD have been declining in recent years which has led to a reduction of public housing inventory.
The Coldwater Housing Commission says the conversion will ensure that units will remain affordable for low income households. Residents would continue to pay 30 percent of their adjusted income towards the rent.
