HOMER, MI (WTVB) – The MHSAA baseball district tournament began Tuesday, and winning pitcher Daniel McMichael drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the last of the seventh as Bronson defeated Hillsdale 4-3 to advance to the district semi-finals. McMichael struck out 11 in going the distance. The Vikings are now 27-9 and will face Jonesville on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

MHSAA Division 2 Districts at Harper Creek
Coldwater will face Olivet on Saturday morning at 10:00am. The Comets advanced with a 18-10 win over Battle Creek Pennfield. The winner of the Coldwater-Olivet game will play either Marshall or Harper Creek for the district championship.
The Cardinals swept Quincy in a makeup doubleheader on Tuesday by scores of 10-2 and 7-3. Coldwater is now 27-9. Brandon Lewis was the winning pitcher in the opener as he struck out seven and was supported by a 15 hit attack. Lewis also had two hits and two RBI’s. Austin Krezminski had three hits and five RBI’s in the nightcap. Coldwater snapped a 2-2 tie with a three run fifth inning. Sean Printke was the winning pitcher in relief. Jake Modert had two hits for Quincy.

MHSAA Division 3 Districts at Homer
Bronson 15, Hillsdale 0Bronson advanced to the District semifinals with a 15-0 thrashing of Hillsdale. Ashton Wronikowski had two hits and two stolen bases. Scyler Cary also had two stolen bases while Chaselyn Preston drove in two runs. Bronson will take a 22-14 record into Saturdays game with Jonesville which will start at 12:30pm.
Homer 12, Union City 6Homer advances to face Quincy at 10:00am on Saturday.
MHSAA Division 2 Districts at Harper Creek
Coldwater will get another shot at Olivet after they lost to the Comets in the finals of the Cardinals Invitational tournament on April 16th. Olivet defeated Battle Creek Pennfield 14-0 to advance to the district semi-finals at 12:00noon on Saturday against Coldwater. The winner of that game will face either Marshall or Harper Creek in the district finals.

MHSAA Division 2 Districts at Coldwater
Coldwater 4, Harper Creek 2
The Coldwater girls soccer team scored three second half goals in a 4-2 win over Harper Creek in the opening round of the MHSAA districts Tuesday. Harper Creek took the early lead with a goal 7 minutes into the game, with the Lady Cardinals tying the score on a goal from Malorie Rzepka, assisted by Madison Marsh, with 17 minutes to play in the half.
Marsh scored 26 seconds into the second half, assisted by Breanna Eddy. Rzepka scored again with 23 minutes left, assisted by Megan Hoath. Hoath then scored with 16 minutes to play, assisted by Rzepka on a corner kick. Harper Creek scored their final goal with 13 seconds to play.
With the victory, the Cardinals advances to play Eaton Rapids Thursday in the second game of the semifinal doubleheader around 6:30 pm. The 5pm game will feature Marshall vs Charlotte, after the Redhawks beat Pennfield 4-1 and Charlotte beat Battle Creek Central 8-0. Coldwater’s record now is 9-5-5. The four goals Tuesday broke theprevious single season scoring record of 39.

Quincy hosted the Branch Area Best Track Meet on Tuesday night. No team scores were kept.
Coldwater winners in the boys meet were Connor Covert in the shot put and discus, Jayden Coney in the long jump, Jacob Evers in the pole vault, Zack Murphy in the 1600, Adam Bailey in the 300 hurdles and Shuaib Aljabaly in the 800, Quincy winners were Bryce Ruhl in the high jump, Ryan Gibson in the 100 and 200 and Brandon Gary in the 3200. Union City’s Tyler Touchet won the 110 hurdles. Bronson’s Courtney Salesman won the 400. Coldwater won the 1600 and 3200 relays while Union City won the 400 and 800 relays.
Allison Butler of Coldwater won three events as she finished first in the 100, 200 and 400. Other Cardinal winners were Breanna Eddy in the long jump and Claire Sheppard in the high jump. Katie Spaulding of Quincy also won three events as she finished first in the pole vault, the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Other Quincy winners were Kayla Hayes in the shot put, Harmony Harpster in the 800 along with Gabby Porter in the 1600 and 3200. Quincy swept all four relay races. Union City’s Rachel Wing won the discus.
