COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Fire Department Tuesday took delivery of a new $1.2 million ladder truck, which has a companion new half million dollar pumper truck that arrived in June. Buying the equipment completes a process started 5 years ago.
Coldwater Fire Chief Rich Sherman displayed the new trucks to Coldwater Noon Rotary Club members following their Tuesday meeting. Sherman said the ladder truck is a requirement that allowed the fire department to earn an excellent Class 3 ISO insurance service office rating.
According to Sherman, it’s usually the basis for insurance premiums. Coldwater’s Class 3 will mean savings for businesses and home owners since the rating is earned by only 9% nationwide and by just 26 fire departments in Michigan.
Sherman says it well justifies the expenditure for the ladder truck and the pumper since the new equipment will allow the fire department to keep up with the growth in the community with the ladder truck having the length to reach the higher levels of current and future apartments, homes, and industrial buildings.
