COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater couple entered into plea bargain agreements in Branch County Circuit Court Monday after they were arrested in a motel drug bust in November.
39-year-old James Royer and his 33-year-old wife Heather were arrested at the Coldwater Inn and Suites, which is the former Super 8 Motel, after Coldwater Police got numerous tips.
James Royer entered a guilty plea on Monday to a charge of possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams.
Heather Royer entered guilty pleas to maintaining a drug house and possession of a non-narcotic drug.
All other charges against the Royers will be dropped by prosecutors in exchange for their guilty pleas. They are scheduled to be sentenced March 26, 2018.
The Royers were convicted of maintaining a drug house after police said heroin and meth were found in late October 2016 at the couple’s residence on South Polk Street.
James Royer served six months in jail and was placed on probation for 18 months. His wife was also placed on the same probation although her jail term was suspended. Police said they had been staying in the motel after being evicted from the apartment they were living at in Coldwater.
