ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) – The NHL’s Event of the Decade has been selected to be the 2014 Winter Classic held at Michigan Stadium. The New Year’s Day game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs had a massive crowd of 105,491, the largest in league history.
NHL.com says what set that version of the Winter Classic apart from others was the size of the crowd and the fact it was a matchup between two Original 6 teams. Toronto won the game in a shootout, 3-2.
