EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Friday afternoon the format for this year’s Football Playoffs.
The one-year-only adjustment to the tournament expands the playoff field from 256 teams to 512. With 507 teams playing 11-player football this year, all teams will be playoff-eligible, and there will be a handful of first-round byes.
The playoffs will feature three district rounds instead of two, regional finals, semifinals, and finals to be played in a yet-to-be-determined location the week of December 4th through the 6th. Finally, all teams have been placed in pre-arranged districts based on enrollment, with pairings to be based on playoff point average.
The district groupings for Branch County football teams are:
- Division 3, Region 10, District 19: Coldwater, Gull Lake, Harper Creek, Niles, Parma Western, St. Joseph, Stevensville Lakeshore, Sturgis
- Division 6, Region 23, District 45: Adrian Madison, Columbia Central, Jonesville, Michigan Center, Napoleon, Onsted, Quincy, Stockbridge
- Division 7, Region 28, District 55: Bronson, Delton Kellogg, Galesburg-Augusta, Hartford, Homer, Lawton, Schoolcraft, Union City
