BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Chargers used three second half touchdowns to defeat the Concord Yellowjackets 52-36 in a Big 8 Conference game on Saturday.
It was the first victory for Clint Colborn as Union City’s Head Football Coach.
The Chargers took control of the game in second half after the two teams battled to a 28-28 halftime tie.
One of Union City’s second half touchdowns came on a 75 yard interception return by Connor Elgan.
Garrett Iobe rushed for 193 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Brayton Mears threw two touchdown passes to Kyle Johnson and ran for another. Terrance Morgan Junior also scored for the Chargers who improved to 1-2.
The Chargers finished with 401 yards rushing.
The Bronson Vikings lost at Homer on Saturday 46-30 but it was all Vikings in the final quarter.
The Trojans led 46-8 after three quarters but Bronson outscored Homer 22-0 in the final stanza to make the final score more respectable.
Bronson’s offense accounted for 393 yards on the ground. Jordan Shadix rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns for the Vikings. Justin Blankenship had 188 yards rushing and two scores. The Vikings are now 0-2.
