COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors approved a match fundraiser on Wednesday morning to help round out the budget for a downtown mural project which is being spearheaded by the Coldwater High School Interact Club.
The D.D.A. will offer and match up to $1,100. Economic Development Assistant Audrey Tappenden said the “Rebate Program” fund or one for “Travel/Education/Training” could accommodate the request.
She said the former is intended for exterior improvements while the latter is expected to have a surplus in the current fiscal year as training sessions and conferences have been held remotely
The Interact Club has raised $3,300 for the project which started over a year ago but they are still short of the amount of money they need.
Possible locations for the mural include Monroe Street and the wall next to 73 West Chicago. A final location has not been chosen yet.
Several organizations have contributed funds or in-kind goods and services; and a fundraiser event was held at JTs Billiard Bar and Grill. Grants have also been secured.
Interact Club President Tate Hostetler and Club Advisor Sarah Davis said it was initially estimated the project would cost between $5,500 and $8,000.
Tappenden said in her memo to the D.D.A. Board that, “The purpose of a matching event is to show D.D.A. support for the project, while rallying additional buy-in from the community at large, whether that be individuals or businesses.”
