BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council is scheduled to award a bid of over $1.1 million on Monday night to Concord Excavating and Grading of Concord for the Ruggles and Compton Street project.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says they were the low bidder for the project following last Tuesday’s bid opening. Mersman says their bid is well below the estimated cost for the work of of $1,348,700.
The City received six bids for the project with the highest coming in at just under $1.7 million.
Bronson was awarded a $1.3 million grant last September to assist with the project.
The work will include the replacement of an aging water main along with work on sanitary and storm sewers on South Ruggles Street and a portion of Compton Street between Mowry and South Ruggles.
The grant will require a local match of just under $441,000.
Bronson was one of several Michigan communities receiving support from the state to upgrade existing public water, sewer and wastewater infrastructure systems.
The storm and sanitary sewer issues on South Ruggles Street have been identified as the most urgent infrastructure project in the city.
