COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cardinals lost their final regular season home game on Tuesday night as they were beaten by the Pennfield Panthers 44-38 at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium.
The short handed Cardinals were only able to dress eight players but hung tough with the Panthers throughout the game.
Pennfield led 26-20 at the half and used 9-5 third quarter to take a 35-25 edge into the final stanza.
Coldwater got the lead down to two possessions in the final minutes as they outscored Pennfield 13-9 in the fourth quarter.
Seniors Mia Rzepka and Abby Herman were honored before the game. Rzepka led Coldwater with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Kenzie Scheid had nine points and 11 rebounds. Pennfield’s Kaylee Glidden scored a game-high 20 points.
Pennfield also defeated Coldwater in the freshman game 31-13. Isabella Pool scored four points for Coldwater.
Also in Branch County girls basketball on Tuesday night, Bronson won their sixth straight game as they defeated Jonesville 44-30 on the Vikings home court. It was Jonesville’s first loss in the Big 8 and prevented the Comets from wrapping up the league championship. Hayley Wilson led Bronson with 17 points while Meagan Lasky added 12 points. Bronson is now 10-3 overall and 8-2 in the Big 8 Conference.
Quincy dropped to 1-11 as they lost to Concord 40-29. Hannah Clark led the Orioles with 16 points. Union City remained winless as they lost a non-conference game to Maple Valley 52-19. Megann Russell had six points and nine rebounds for the Chargers.
