COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Organizers for the Awesome Branch County Challenge have been forced to pull the plug again on the annual event which was scheduled for August 28 at the Branch County Fairgrounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is the second straight year the event for local youngsters has been scrubbed.
The postponement to August 27, 2022 was announced on the ABC Challenge Facebook page. Organizers stated, “The ABC Challenge team members have agreed that we need to err on the side of caution at this time. With positive COVID cases increasing in the State of Michigan and in our area, and with no vaccine available yet for our main participants, children, we felt that to put on an event like ours, where social distancing is not an option, is not safe at this time.”
They also point out that vaccines for young people will not be available until the Fall at the earliest and that, “the safety of our participants and their families is our primary concern”.
They are planning a bigger and better event for next year, and they intend it to be the muddiest one yet. E-mails will be sent out prior to the 2021 Winter Break Holidays for special savings in 2022.
The event was held for three years before the back-to-back cancellations. The Coldwater High School Interact Club organizes the event which has had nearly two dozen sponsors in the past.
The ABC Challenge is designed to be a fun event for kids between the ages of four and 18. Adults can also participate.
The event was made possible by a donation to the Interact Club by the Women Who Care of Branch County. The funds raised from the event are donated back to various local school and community organizations
