UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Easier access to obtain a GED for Union City area residents is now available.
The Branch Intermediate Adult Education Program has announced a pilot GED program to be offered at the Community Unlimited, Inc. building at 221 Ellen Street, Union City, with the BISD program covering all costs for students.
The GED or General Equivalency Degree, is a series of four exams that when passed provide the student a credential considered to be the equivalent of a high school diploma. This credential allows individuals to gain better employment or eligibility to enroll in trade school or college including access to financial aid to pay for it.
Branch Intermediate Adult Education Director Jan Storrs says their GED program has been very successful in helping Branch County non-graduates finish high school. The program has also developed resources to allow online preparation for the tests. Storrs says the new format, combined with a local site for support may eliminate the transportation barriers faced by potential Union City students.
Retired Union City High School counselor Doreen Counterman will facilitate the services in Union City. She hopes to survey potential students and provide days and hours that work for them.
The Union City location will provide registration, computer and internet access on-site, practice materials, and scheduled tutoring for difficult subjects. All testing must be completed at the Coldwater High School site. Transportation will be available if necessary.
More information is available from Storrs at (269)580-6399 or Counterman at (269)718-8883.
