EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate in June went up by a tenth of a percent to five-point-one percent according to data released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
Branch County had the 21st lowest unemployment rate among the 83 Michigan counties.
It was a mixed bag of news for neighboring counties. St. Joseph County jobless rate went down from May to 5-point-5 percent, Hillsdale County went up to 5-point-7 percent while Calhoun County stayed at 6-point-8 percent.
The state says not seasonally adjusted jobless rates were largely unchanged in most of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas during June.
Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Associate Director Wayne Rourke says, “Michigan regional jobless rates displayed little change in June. However, both employment levels and nonfarm job counts rose in most metro areas over the month.”
Unemployment rates ranged from 3-point-1 percent in Livingston County to eight-point-seven percent in Montmorency and Roscommon Counties.
