COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Habitat for Humanity has made a $1,000 offer to the City of Coldwater to buy the vacant lot at 29 Lawton Avenue for the construction of a new single family residence.
A draft sales agreement is scheduled to be presented to the Coldwater City Council on Monday night.
The Council will be asked to put the offer on the table for 30 days under terms of the City Charter concerning the sale of public property. Due to the council’s schedule, the first regularly scheduled meeting after the 30-day time period at which the sale could be acted upon is Monday September 13.
Other bids maybe received and considered by the City Council during that time.
City Manager Keith Baker says the site is the former location of a residential structure that was demolished in 2018.
Now vacant, he says the parcel is sufficiently sized for a new residential structure. The lot is about 77 feet in width by 132 feet in depth.
The property was acquired by the City through the State of Michigan tax foreclosure program.
Why not just donate it to them? It meets the cities goals of new low income housing and the are a reputable nonprofit.
