COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Community School District Board of Education approved a resolution during a special meeting on Monday night that would place two bonding questions for district voters on the November 2 ballot.
The action came after the district got approval from the Michigan Department of Treasury to call for the election.
Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan said the first proposal would be for a $50 million bond to finance a 20,000 square foot expansion which would include a second story at Coldwater High School as well as for renovations to the building.
She said there would no additional millage for taxpayers and the work would be done in stages.
The second proposal would be for a $17 million bond plus a point-39 mill increase for a 950 seat auditorium at the high school.
Whelan said the $50 million bond proposal would have to pass in order for the second proposal to take place.
Coldwater High School was opened in 1957 and underwent an expansion in the mid 1990’s after voters approved a $12.6 million renovation and expansion. Ten new classrooms, a cafetorium, and a gymnasium were added. Extensive renovation also took place and nearly $1 million spent on providing up-to-date technology.
They are claiming the same “no ADDITIONAL millage on this proposal as they did the last proposal. You can’t count the old millage ending on both of these you scam artist. As for the auditorium they have fewer students now than they did when I graduated in 1977 and not they have a two gyms vs one and a cafetorium vs a lunch room.
Just say no to CCS excessive requests!
