COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools Superintendent Terry Ann Whelan said in a robocall update on district open houses set for Tuesday and Wednesday that due to the number of people that would be attending and the current positivity rate for COVID-19 in Branch County, they have had to make some changes.
In order to reduce the number of people in a building, Whelan says they will only be inviting specific grades and students. The scheduled times will remain the same.
At Max Larsen Elementary, only Young Fives and Kindergarteners are being asked to attend and any 1st grade student who is brand new to Max Larsen. Students will receive a video from their teacher by Thursday with their welcoming message.

At Lakeland Elementary: Only 4th Graders are being asked to attend and any 5th grader who is brand new to Lakeland Elementary. Students will receive a video from their teacher by Thursday with their welcoming message.

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency reported on Monday there were 48 new COVID-19 cases in Branch County for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Whelan went on to say, “These decisions are never easy ones to make, but we hope that you understand that our number one goal is to get our students back to their classrooms next week. If you and your child will be attending an Open House, please for the safety of yourself as well as others, wear a mask. In order to limit the number of people attending, we also ask that only the parents and their students attend. We all need to do our part to end this pandemic so our kids can get back to doing all the activities that they so love. Let’s all be part of the solution!”
