CODWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch Area Food Pantry in Coldwater continues to answer and then some the huge challenge presented by the Pandemic which is now surging in Branch County as fall approaches and schools are reopening this week.
Bob Rowbotham, who has been the logistics and communications manager for the all-volunteer organization for the last eight years, presented an update on the pantry when he spoke at last week’s meeting of the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club.
Rowbotham told Rotarians that the volunteers at the pantry are the most diverse group of people he has ever worked with.
He added that all these people with different backgrounds come together with one concept in mind which is helping out the community.
Before the pandemic, the pantry was open Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday when a total of 260 boxes of food were distributed over the three days to families with one box allowed for each client every two months.
However, since April of last year, in spite of the financial burden on the pantry, it was able every week to serve around 340 families each Tuesday.
The pantry is located on Pierson Street just north of U.S. 12 and is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
