BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Branch County is included in the advisory. Forecasters say heat index readings are expected rise to around 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
Residents are being asked to limit time outdoors if possible, or stay in the shade. Drink plenty of water, and wear light colored and light weight clothing.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
There is a chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms with slightly better potential on Wednesday. Severe weather is not expected.
