COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is encouraging all residents to safely celebrate Halloween and protect youngsters from the COVID-19 virus.
Health Officer Rebecca Burns says, “With high transmission and positivity rates in our three counties, we encourage parents, grandparents, and communities to implement strategies to decrease potential for illness among our youngest residents. Halloween is a time of year that children and adults look forward to, where outdoor activity is part of the fun.”
The health agency is offering several safety tips to local residents.
Parents are asked to talk with children about safety and expectations. You should also stay outdoors for activities, especially for those who are unvaccinated. Youngster should also trick-or-treat in small groups or people they live with and everybody should avoid congregating or gathering in groups around houses. If you go indoors or to a crowded outdoor settings, wear a face mask, covering the nose and mouth.
Residents are reminded that a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask. You should not wear a costume mask over a protective cloth mask if wearing both causes difficulty breathing. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask.
Homeowners are asked to distribute candy on a table to eliminate direct contact and they should consider handing out candy in an open space where distancing is possible, rather than from the front door.
