COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Apportionment Commission voted 5-0 on Friday afternoon to keep the number of County Commissioner districts at the current number of five.
Five maps had been submitted for consideration. Three of the maps keep the number of County Commissioners at five while the other two would have expanded the Board of Commissioners to seven.
District Five would consist of the eastern townships of Butler, Quincy, Algansee and California Township.
District Four would cover Ovid, Kinderhook, Gilead, Noble and Bronson Townships.
District Three would take in Bethel, Union, Sherwood, Batavia and Matteson Townships.
District Two would cover Girard and Coldwater Townships and a portion of the City of Coldwater while District One would take in most of Coldwater.
The Commission has been meeting in recent works following the 2020 U.S. Census which showed Branch County had a slight decrease in population to 44,862.
But the census showed the population in the City of Coldwater went up to 13,822 which is about a 13 percent increase from the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau estimate and a 26 percent increase from the 2010 Census.
