COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Promise Program in Branch County spearheaded by the Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club has funded almost 2 dozen scholarships including a recent award which helped a student pull herself from homelessness and poverty to live on her own and attend Kellogg Community College.
George Babcoke, chairman of the scholarship program and current chair of the Sunrise Rotary Foundation, spoke this week to the Coldwater Noon Rotary Club.
According to Babcoke, this student from Quincy, who is now a nurse extern at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, sent a thank you letter to Sunrise Rotary, explaining she was able to afford her education and sign a lease for an apartment.
Eligible applicants for the $1,000 scholarships must either reside in Branch County or have graduated from a high school in the county or home school.
