COLOMA, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Senator Kim LaSata has announced she will run for re-election in the newly created 17th State Senate District which now includes all of Branch and St. Joseph Counties as well as portions of Calhoun and Hillsdale Counties after the Independent Redistricting Commission recently approved the new Senate map.
In a statement released by her campaign, LaSata said, “Our region’s biggest competition is just over the border in Indiana and Ohio. Many family-owned small businesses have suffered greatly under the destructive COVID orders. I have proudly worked to get our economy back on track so that businesses can grow and invest in our communities.”
LaSata currently represents a majority of the new 17th Senate District. LaSata will continue to serve constituents within the current 21st district through the remainder of this term.
The new 17th district consists of portions of Berrien, Calhoun, Hillsdale, and Jackson Counties and all of Branch, Cass and Saint Joseph Counties.
Mike Shirkey is Branch County’s current representative in the State Senate but he will be term limited at the end of this year.
