COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved the transfer of an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Abatement Certificate on Monday night from DMV Properties to AW of Branch County.
The Council approved the 12 year certificate in October 2019 for the rehabilitation of 41 and 47 West Chicago. The Blush & Ivory Bridal Company now occupies the space and will officially open to customers Tuesday. Downtown Coldwater’s newest retail storefront will be located at 41 West Chicago Street.
At first there were plans to turn the building into a wine and retail business known as the “Purple Orchid” but those plans did not materialize.
Neighborhoods Service Director and City Assessor Deb Sikorski said the new owners will continue work on the building.
The Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act Committee reviewed an application for transfer of the initial proposed rehabilitation project January 31 and determined all criteria under city policy have been met. The criteria includes the proposed continued rehabilitation will exceed the minimum requirement of $50,000. In addition, a minimum of one full time position and five housing units will be created.
