HOMER, MI (WTVB) – The Big 8 Conference maybe on the verge of losing another member as the Cascades Conference is looking to add Homer to its ranks.
Homer Community Schools Superintendent Mike Leskowich said on the district’s Facebook page that the Cascade Conference’s executive council unanimously voted on June 30 to accept Homer into the conference as its 12th and final member starting with the 2023-2024 school year.
The Homer School Board is scheduled to take action on moving from the Big 8 Conference to the Cascades Conference during their meeting on July 18.
Leskowich says their Athletic Committee views the potential move as a decision of great significance and they would like to hear from the community before the decision is made. Community forums have been scheduled for July 12 and 13.
If Homer decides to leave the Big 8, they would be the second charter member who will leave the conference after the next school year.
The Jonesville School Board voted unanimously on June 27 to move from the Big 8 to the Cascades Conference beginning with the 2023-2024 school year.
Jonesville and Homer were original members of the Little “C” Conference when it was formed in 1931. They were later part of the Big 8 Conference when it formed in 1973.
