COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Tuesday’s Republican primary will only have one contested Branch County race.
Daniel Dickerson, Alan McClellan and Rod Olney are running for the District Five seat on the Board of Commissioners.
County Commissioners Tom Mathew, Randall Hazelbaker, Jon Houtz and Tim Stoll are all running unopposed in the primary.
Houtz will face Democrat Chris Boger in the November general election. Boger was the only Democrat to file in any of the county races.
Commissioner Leonard W. Kolcz decided not to run for re-election as his district has been divided. The new boundaries meant Kolcz would have had to run in the Primary against Stoll and Kolcz did not want to do that.
County Treasurer Steven Rutz and County Register of Deeds Nyci DeLoach are running unopposed.
The ballot for township offices is rather sparse with no contested races.
There are also Republican primaries for State House, State Senate and Congressional seats.
In the 35th State House District which includes Branch and Hillsdale counties as well as a portion of Jackson County, incumbent Andrew Fink is being challenged by Steve Meckley of Cement City. Democrat Andrew Watkins will face the winner in November.
State Senator Kim LaSata is facing a challenge from Jonathan Lindsey in the 17th State Senate G.O.P. Primary. The new district covers Branch County and extends from Hillsdale County west to the lakeshore. The winner will be pitted against Democrat Scott Rex Starr in the November general election.
In the newly drawn 5th Congressional District, Congressman Tim Walberg is facing a primary challenge from Dr. Sherry O’Donnell and Bryan Trouten who is running as write-in candidate. The winner will face Democrat Bart Goldberg in November,
