LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate in June went up a half percent from the previous month to four-point-five percent according to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget.
Their report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose for the month in 15 Michigan labor market areas.
Wayne Rourke is the associate director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. He stated, “Most of Michigan’s regional jobless rates saw typical June increases. June nonfarm jobs increased throughout the state as seasonal hiring continued across multiple industries.”
The Detroit metropolitan statistical area was the only region to demonstrate a jobless rate decline over the month.
The report showed Branch County had the 17th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
Unemployment rates also went up in neighboring counties.
St. Joseph County was at four-point-seven percent, Hillsdale County was at five percent while Calhoun County was at five-point-six percent.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in June held steady at four-point-three percent.
Unemployment rates ranged from three-point-two percent in Livingston County to nine percent in Roscommon County.
