COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With competitive races for both of Branch County’s state House and Senate seats, the August 2 is proving to be the costliest election ever for the area.
Current Senator Kim LaSata of Niles, who moved to compete in the new 17th Senate District that spreads from Branch County to New Buffalo, is in a competitive primary against Trump-endorsed candidate Jonathan Lindsey of Bronson.
According to the political newsletter MIRS News, Lindsey has raised more than LaSata overall with $185,742.50 gained this cycle, while LaSata has acquired $167,693.43 overall. However, LaSata has raised more this period with $143,297.55 to return for a second term in the Senate, compared to $88,630 for Lindsey, and has $110,997.82 left on the balance sheet as Lindsey reported having $59,783.87 remaining in his bank account.
In the newly numbered 35th District State House District, incumbent Representative Andrew Fink brought $121,097, while challenger Steve Meckley reported raising $43,848.
The numbers are based on filings with Michigan Elections Commission last week.
